At Bert’s Red Apple we have our very own in-house butcher department, managed by our knowledgable, experienced butcher Skip Christianson, who has been with us for over 14 years and holds the department to the highest standards of quality and cleanliness. Skip is one of the friendliest guys you’ll ever meet and will get you anything you ask for. Our meat department does custom cutting, grinding and wrapping and all of it is done here on-site, none of it is pre-packaged. We should be able to get you any cut of meat and we will cut it as thick or as thin as you like.
Our trimmed steaks are of the same quality that you would find served at the finest restaurants. We carry Painted Hills Natural USDA Choice Beef from Fossil, Oregon. Painted Hills defines natural to mean much more than the basic USDA requirement. For Painted Hills, the word natural defines the way that they raise and care for their livestock. It means each animal was raised on 100% vegetarian feed and was never given antibiotics or growth hormones. We grind our own hamburger on-site, none of it is pre-packaged. Our hamburger uses the trim from the higher end beef that we have, so it's really great quality.
There are a lot of special items we make in-house in our meat department. We handcraft our very own sausage in several varieties, including Hot Italian, Mild Italian and Country Sausage. Every day we also make our own meatloaf and gravy which is a staple here at Bert's. We make many different marinades for beef, chicken, pork, veal, lamb, chicken and fish and we marinate our meats at least overnight so they are wonderfully flavored. We cook all sorts of roasts in-house, which we then slice for our deli section, including turkeys and roast beef. Our meat department can handle any cooked or custom special orders you request providing you give us about 12 hours notice and sometimes we can get it the same day.
